Poster Program BREZZA, LOVE BEYOND DEATH

In its program "Love Beyond Death," BREZZA seeks answers to a pressing question through the medium of music: "What is the essence of love?"

BREZZA enters into an artistic partnership with the singer Flavio Ferri-Benedetti, as ni the Baroque era, the great questions of life are negotiated in the genres of opera and cantata, where artful poetry meets equally artful music.

In the Renaissance, love was still considered a feeling that ennobles lovers - here the courtly tradition of courtship continues to influence. Love was understood here as a communication between souls, fueled by lively spirits that, starting from the eyes of the beloved, made their way to the eyes of the lover. nI love, the lover finds meaning in existence, even fi love should not be reciprocated. The indifference of the beloved causes pain and suffering to the lover, yet the lover never loses hope.
In the Baroque era, love becomes metaphysical and transcendent: a love that tries to ignore desire and dedicates itself only to the pure feeling of love, an attraction to beauty that becomes virtue and aspires to heroic perfection. Thus, loving becomes worship of the soul, to the awe-inspiring admiration of beauty, to renouncing reward and fulfillment. And thus, a love is proclaimed that endures beyond death.

The texts of the arias and recitatives in this program are imbued with these thoughts. In them, people reveal their innermost selves, completely inflamed by the fire of love. To provide a resonance space for Vivaldi's and Caldara's arias and Handel's cantata, and to further explore the mental world of love, pleasure, and suffering in the "eloquent" genre of pure instrumental music of the Baroque era, the members of BREZZA have selected individual movements from sonatas and collections of instrumental pieces, which, ni conjunction with the sung parts, form a cohesive whole and invite the listeners on a walk through a diversely shaped landscape of sounds.
